What is my IP address?

This is the address our server sees for your connection — the same one every website sees. It belongs to your provider, mobile operator, VPN or office network and is shared by all devices behind your router. It can be IPv4 (203.0.113.42) or IPv6 (2001:db8::1); with a VPN or proxy on, you see the VPN's address.

Examples

Allow only your IP to reach SSH (ufw)
sudo ufw allow from 203.0.113.42 to any port 22
Get your IP from a terminal
curl https://minitools.live/api/ip
{"ip":"203.0.113.42"}

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a public and a private IP?

A private IP (for example 192.168.1.10 or 10.0.0.5) identifies your device inside your home or office network. The public IP identifies the whole network on the internet; your router translates between them (NAT).

Why does my IP address change?

Most home and mobile connections get a dynamic address that the provider can change after a router restart or after some time. A fixed (static) IP usually has to be ordered separately.

Does my IP reveal my exact location?

No. An IP address usually points to your provider and an approximate city or region, not to your street or home.

Why do I see an IPv6 address?

If both your network and the site support IPv6, browsers prefer it. Your connection may still have a separate IPv4 address.
