MD5 Hash Generator

Calculate the MD5 hash of any text

What is MD5?

An MD5 hash is 128 bits, shown as 32 hexadecimal characters. Collisions can be produced in seconds, so MD5 must not protect anything an attacker could tamper with. It is still fine for detecting accidental corruption, deduplication and cache keys.

Frequently asked questions

Is MD5 safe to use?

Not for security. MD5 collisions are easy to produce, so it must not be used for signatures, certificates or passwords. It is fine for checksums where nobody is trying to fool you.

How long is an MD5 hash?

Always 128 bits, shown as 32 hexadecimal characters, no matter how long the input is.

Can MD5 be decrypted?

No. MD5 is a hash, not encryption. Websites that “decrypt” MD5 look the hash up in tables of precomputed common inputs.
